Overview
- Roughly 350 Louisiana National Guard members will begin work shortly after Christmas and stay through Feb. 28, 2026.
- Troops will bolster the French Quarter’s enhanced security zone for New Year’s Eve, the Sugar Bowl, and Mardi Gras in coordination with NOPD and Louisiana State Police.
- The Pentagon says the Guard will support federal law enforcement partners, including the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security.
- Units who served in Washington, D.C., earlier this year will return to join the mission, which operates under Title 32 with federal funding and state control by Gov. Jeff Landry and Maj. Gen. Thomas Friloux.
- The move follows Landry’s September request for up to 1,000 federally funded troops and came the same day the Supreme Court blocked a separate Chicago deployment as local debate continues over necessity amid lower violent-crime rates.
