Overview
- Ofcom reported Friday that roughly 3.5 million people have used the regulator’s simplified “one-touch” process to switch broadband or landline providers since it launched two years ago.
- The one-touch system means customers only need to contact their new provider, which then handles the move and removes the need to deal with the old supplier.
- Ofcom’s research found about one in three customers with bundled broadband, landline and pay-TV deals were out of contract last year and that some out-of-contract households could save more than £100 a year by switching.
- Recent quarterly data show clear signs of pressure on household finances: 4% of telecoms customers missed a payment, 12% changed a service, 10% cut other spending and 7% cancelled a service.
- Ofcom is urging customers to check whether they are in or out of contract, compare offers at ofcom.org.uk/onyourside, and consider switching where it would reduce bills, a move that could ease household budgets and push stronger competition between providers.
