3.4 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Northern Illinois

Residents in the Chicago area report light tremors early Monday morning, with no damage recorded.

The earthquake struck near Somonauk, about 60 miles southwest of Chicago, at 2:53 a.m.
Measured at a depth of approximately 6 miles, the tremor caused weak to light shaking.
This is the first earthquake over magnitude 3.0 in Illinois since December 2023.
No injuries or structural damage were reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.
