Overview

  • Thousands of visitors toured around 600 to 700 historic wind, water, steam and motor mills nationwide on Pentecost Monday.
  • Saxony, as host state, inaugurated the national event in Bad Düben with a church service, live music and the traditional millers’ “Glück zu!” greeting.
  • Operators across North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Saxony and Thuringia staged demonstrations of milling, butter churning and water pumping alongside guided tours and musical programs.
  • Unseasonably calm conditions in Thuringia allowed the 300-year-old Bockwindmühle in Lumpzig to operate safely and draw about 3,000 visitors despite high winds earlier in the weekend.
  • Thuringia is set to host the German Society for Mill History and Mill Preservation’s national annual meeting from June 5 to 7, 2026, in Bad Langensalza.
