Overview
- Under National Interagency Fire Center direction, the wing executed five C-130H drops totaling 14,571 gallons of retardant on the Lee fire on Aug. 9 and one 2,769-gallon drop on the Oak fire on Aug. 10.
- Aircraft equipped with U.S. Forest Service-owned Modular Airborne FireFighting Systems discharged up to 3,000 gallons per sortie and refilled at tanker bases statewide in under 12 minutes.
- Retardant missions were approved by the Secretary of Defense and conducted under USNORTHCOM’s Defense Support of Civil Authorities posture.
- The 302d Airlift Wing remains the sole Air Force Reserve unit in the MAFFS program alongside Air National Guard wings in California, Nevada and Wyoming.
- Crews continue to stage C-130Hs and MAFFS modules at Peterson SFB for rapid-refill sorties in support of ground firefighting operations.
