3 Shelby Township Men Charged After Raids Seize 1,500 Pounds of Marijuana and $380,000

Authorities say the operation funneled unregulated cannabis to out-of-state buyers and the investigation continues.

Overview

  • Mark Gojcaj, 21, Fabio Asmar, 30, and Martino Abed, 35, all from Shelby Township, are in custody following Nov. 6 search warrants.
  • Each suspect is charged with delivering or manufacturing 45 kilograms of marijuana, conspiracy to do so, and maintaining a drug house, with bond set at $100,000 cash/surety.
  • At least six agencies, including the Macomb County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and DEA FANTOM Group 10, executed warrants at three homes and one business in Shelby Township.
  • Investigators recovered roughly 1,500 pounds of marijuana, about $380,000 in cash, three handguns, two AR-style rifles, a small amount of crack cocaine, hundreds of THC vapes and edibles, and five vehicles.
  • Sheriff Anthony Wickersham called it a sophisticated multi-state trafficking network selling bulk quantities, often to out-of-state buyers, and officials allege the activity was outside Michigan's regulated market.
