3 Metro Detroit Residents Charged in App-Based Medicaid Mileage Fraud

Prosecutors allege a location‑spoofing app fabricated trips in Michigan's GPS‑tracked transportation reimbursement program.

Overview

  • Bernice Marie Pate, 51, of Inkster, Wanda Rose Spivey, 55, of Taylor, and Ashley Eliza Mendoza, 34, of Detroit were arraigned in East Lansing’s 54B District Court.
  • Pate faces 10 counts of Medicaid fraud–false claim, while Spivey and Mendoza each face 5 counts, with each count charged as a four-year felony.
  • Spivey and Mendoza were arraigned on Oct. 6 and Pate on Oct. 8 before Judge Molly Hennessey Greenwalt.
  • All three were released on $50,000 personal recognizance bonds and are due for a probable cause conference on Oct. 17 at 8:30 a.m., followed by a preliminary examination on Oct. 23 at 9 a.m.
  • The case was referred by the DHHS Office of Inspector General and is being prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Health Care Fraud Division, which says the investigation remains active.
