29 Maoist Cadres Surrender in Sukma, Chhattisgarh

Police attribute the turn-in to pressure from a new Gogunda security camp alongside the Poona Margem reintegration offer.

Overview

  • The group comprised members of DAKMS, militia and Janatana Sarkar front organizations of the CPI (Maoist).
  • Among them was DAKMS Gogunda head Podiam Budhra, who carried a ₹2 lakh reward.
  • The cadres surrendered before senior Chhattisgarh Police and CRPF officers under the Poona Margem rehabilitation program.
  • Police said intensified searches from the newly established Gogunda security camp curtailed Maoist activity and prompted the surrenders.
  • Officials assessed a weakened support base in the Darbha division, noting earlier group surrenders on January 7 in Sukma and January 8 in Dantewada, within a broader push toward the Centre’s March 31, 2026 elimination target.
