Overview
- Mountain West Food Group of Idaho recalled approximately 2,855 pounds of raw ground beef after USDA’s FSIS detected E. coli O26 in routine sampling.
- The affected items are 16-oz vacuum-sealed packages labeled Forward Farms grass-fed ground beef produced on Dec. 16, 2025, bearing EST 2083 and a use or freeze by Jan. 13, 2026.
- The product was distributed to retailers in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Pennsylvania and Washington.
- E. coli O26 is a Shiga toxin–producing strain that can cause bloody diarrhea, vomiting and, in rare cases, hemolytic uremic syndrome in vulnerable people.
- Consumers are urged to avoid the product, discard or return it, and cook ground beef to 160°F verified with a thermometer as no illnesses have been confirmed.
