Overview
- Sussex Police say a woman in her 20s was raped on Brighton Beach overnight on Tuesday into Wednesday and officers have cordoned the area between the i360 tower and the volleyball courts while they investigate.
- A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape over the beach report and remains in police custody while officers search for evidence and support the victim with specialist trained officers.
- Separately, a 51-year-old man, Akiyas Jameldeen, has been charged with two counts of oral rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration over an incident near the Black Rock car park on Madeira Drive and was remanded to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.
- A further case from the end of July saw 37-year-old Hany Mohamed charged with rape and common assault in relation to an alleged incident at a High Street flat; he was remanded ahead of a September hearing.
- Police have named operations handling the enquiries, urged anyone with information to call 101 or report online quoting the relevant operation or serial reference, and said they will continue to offer specialist support to victims as investigations continue.
