Overview

• The Robinson R22 did not return to a homestead in the Yagoona area on Wednesday evening, prompting a large-scale search, police said.
• AMSA sent a Challenger jet and the Rescue 510 helicopter to assist in the overnight effort across remote Cape York Peninsula country.
• Searchers found the wreckage about 8:30am Thursday roughly 7km southeast of Yagoona, where the 27-year-old sole occupant was confirmed deceased.
• The Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is leading the inquiry and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
• The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has opened a separate investigation into the circumstances, and no cause has been identified.
