26-Year-Old Shot Dead in Ballia Clash as Police Book Nine and Suspend Four

Investigators trace the killing to a long-running feud that police say festered after earlier cases saw little action.

Overview

  • Sunil Yadav, 26, was shot at Raipura Dhala in Ballia’s Haldipur area while returning from a birthday gathering on Saturday evening.
  • He was declared dead at the district hospital, and his body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
  • Based on a complaint by his father, police named Pankaj Rai, Laxmi Narayan Choubey, Neeraj Choubey, and Shravan Dubey, and booked three to four unidentified others, for a total of nine.
  • Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh suspended sub-inspectors Ravi Verma and Uday Pratap Singh, head constable Arvind Yadav, and constable Ajay Yadav for alleged negligence.
  • Police cite February FIRs over Saraswati Puja fund-raising involving the Rai and Choubey families and say teams are tracing the accused.
