25th Infantry Division Begins Fielding HIMARS Launchers in Hawaii

It is designed to extend the division’s operational reach across the Indo-Pacific by enabling rapid precision fires with relocation capability.

Overview

  • The division is in a six-week fielding cycle aimed at delivering 16 HIMARS launchers to its artillery brigade.
  • It will divest eight M119 105 mm and six M777 155 mm howitzers to consolidate cannon battalions and form a HIMARS unit.
  • Seventy-three soldiers have volunteered to retrain from 13B howitzer operators to 13M rocket launchers, with 27 already training alongside the National Guard.
  • The intelligence and electronic warfare battalion is being reshaped into a multi-domain fires unit to extend sensing and targeting across domains.
  • The division plans to test its enhanced long-range fires, drones and new infantry squad vehicles this fall at a Joint Pacific multinational exercise.
