IUCAA selected the rural school group from about 15,000 applicants through a three-stage assessment.

Overview

  • Officials felicitated the students in Pune on November 14 before they traveled to Mumbai for an early morning flight to the United States.
  • The 10-day itinerary features NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, NASA’s Earth Information Center, and visits to major technology companies in San Francisco.
  • The schedule includes a meeting with India’s ambassador, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, at the Embassy in Washington, D.C.
  • IUCAA ran two written tests and interviews that shortlisted roughly 235 students and produced a final cohort of 75, with 50 already taken to ISRO and 25 now set for the U.S. tour.
  • Many participants will be flying for the first time, and officials emphasized discipline, teamwork, and health precautions to maximize the trip’s educational and confidence-building value.
