23-Year-Old Dies from Peanut Allergy After Eating Pizza

Despite Searching for Likely Ingredients Online, James Atkinson Fell Victim to an Undetected Allergen in His Meal

23-year-old James Atkinson, a computer programmer with a known peanut allergy, died after eating a slice of pizza ordered via Deliveroo.
Atkinson had searched the internet for likely ingredients in certain foods before ordering the pizza, chips, and Indian dishes.
After eating less than one slice of the pizza, Atkinson realized something was wrong and called for an ambulance while his flatmate unsuccessfully searched for his EpiPen.
Atkinson was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and despite the efforts of medics to resuscitate him, his death was confirmed at 9.21pm.
Examination of the uneaten takeaway food and a 'nut mix' at the Dadyal restaurant which supplied it detected the presence of peanuts.
