2.3 Million Pounds of Golden Island Pork Jerky Recalled for Possible Metal Contamination

FSIS labeled the voluntary action a Class I recall following LSI’s finding that a production conveyor belt shed metal.

Overview

  • The recall covers 2,277,540 pounds of ready-to-eat Korean barbecue pork jerky sold nationwide at Costco and Sam’s Club.
  • Affected pouches are 14.5 oz and 16 oz labeled “GOLDEN ISLAND fire-grilled PORK JERKY Korean BARBECUE recipe” with establishment number M279A and best-by dates from Oct. 23, 2025 through Sept. 23, 2026.
  • The issue was discovered after multiple consumer complaints about “wiry” fragments, and LSI traced the source to a conveyor belt in its Alpena, South Dakota facility.
  • FSIS says there are no confirmed injuries and urges people to discard the jerky or return it for a refund, noting the product’s one-year shelf life means it may still be in home pantries.
  • In a separate action, Hormel recalled about 4.9 million pounds of ready-to-eat frozen chicken for the same concern, bringing related recalls to roughly 7.1 million pounds.
