22-Year-Old Tesla Driver Charged With Murder After Alleged Intentional I-805 Collision

  • On June 30 just after 8 p.m., CHP says a 22-year-old in a red 2023 Tesla Model Y intentionally struck a motorcyclist in the HOV lane on southbound I-805 near Telegraph Canyon Road.
  • The 52-year-old rider died at the scene and the Tesla then collided with a 2012 Ram carrying six occupants who were all hospitalized.
  • The driver fled on foot after the impact but was later apprehended and booked on murder and other felony charges.
  • Three lanes of I-805 remained closed overnight as investigators processed the scene before reopening them around noon the next day.
