22-Year-Old Man Arrested for Shooting at South San Francisco Church

Debari Charvel Augustine faces charges including attempted murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, and possession of an assault weapon.

South San Francisco's Saint Augustine Catholic Church was struck by gunfire on Tuesday around 1:30 p.m. with 18 shots fired at the church in broad daylight.
No one was inside the church at the time of the shooting, resulting in no injuries, but several windows had bullet holes and its front doors were shattered.
Police responded to the scene and launched a search for a male gunman in a dark-colored car.
A 22-year-old man, Debari Charvel Augustine from San Francisco, was arrested in connection with the shooting a few hours later and faces charges including attempted murder on the first degree, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, and possession of an assault weapon.
The shooting prompted a lockdown at nearby Westborough Middle School and the cancellation of Wednesday mass and catechism classes at St. Augustine’s for the rest of the week.
