Overview
- The British Geological Survey recorded a 2.2-magnitude quake centred in Scartho which struck just before 7.50pm on Tuesday and originated about 5km below ground.
- Residents in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and nearby communities reported brief shaking, bangs and deep rumbles and posted accounts on social media.
- The BGS classifies the event as a minor, locally felt tremor and notes the UK records roughly 200–300 similar low-magnitude quakes each year.
- Local outlets and the BGS report no widely reported injuries or significant damage from the event and emergency services did not issue major alerts.
- The quake is put in local context by a 3.9-magnitude event in Grimsby in June 2018 and by the fact that shallower quakes of a few kilometres depth are more likely to be felt near their epicentre.
