Overview

  • Mauricio Neyra Yuyes, 21, is charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired in connection with the early-morning crash.
  • The chain-reaction crash began when his Mercedes-Benz rear-ended a Volkswagen GTI near East Gun Hill Road, causing it to spin into a guardrail before the Mercedes veered into the right lane and struck two motorcyclists.
  • Riders Manuel Amarantepenalo, 19, and Enrique Martinez, 21, were ejected from their Taizhou motorcycles and pronounced dead at Montefiore Medical Center and Jacobi Medical Center respectively.
  • He was released by a Bronx Criminal Court judge pending trial after refusing a chemical blood test and demonstrating signs of intoxication at the scene.
  • All southbound lanes of the Bronx River Parkway were closed for hours, with traffic detoured at East 233rd Street until the roadway reopened around 8:30 a.m.
