21 Individuals Arrested in Memphis Following Multi-Agency Violent Crime Reduction Operation
Months-long Investigation Nets 91 Seized Firearms, Large Quantities of Narcotics and Shutdown of Crime Hotspot 'Save a Stop 2' Store
- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Memphis Police Department launched an investigation into illegal activity in Memphis and Shelby County after analyzing over 5,000 data points on crime and gun recovery.
- The operation resulted in multi-agencies arresting 21 individuals on charges of firearms-trafficking, drug-distribution, conspiracy, and several other offenses. This was a strategic effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to reduce violent crime.
- During the investigation, authorities identified the Save a Stop 2 store as a crime hotspot. The Shelby County District Attorney's office obtained a court order under Tennessee law to shut down the store due to excessive illegal firearm and drug crimes being committed on and around the property.
- The operation led to the seizure of nearly 100 firearms, six of which were outfitted with machine gun conversion devices. Also seized during the operation were large quantities of narcotics, including methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and MDMA/Meth pills.
- The investigation led to nine indictments or complaints and 21 defendants facing federal charges, including repeat offenders, serial shooters, and members of firearms trafficking rings.
