Overview
- Argentina will face Algeria, Austria and Jordan in Group J following FIFA’s group-stage draw at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
- Hosts were pre-assigned: Mexico leads Group A and opens at Estadio Azteca on June 11, Canada is in Group B, and the United States is in Group D.
- The expanded tournament features 48 teams in 12 groups of four, with the top two in each group plus the eight best third-place teams advancing to a new round of 32 for a total of 104 matches.
- Draw rules kept most same-confederation teams apart (UEFA can have two per group) and separated the four highest-ranked non-host teams so they would not meet before the semifinals if they win their groups.
- During the ceremony, FIFA president Gianni Infantino presented a new FIFA Peace Prize to U.S. President Donald Trump, capping an event that also featured high-profile performers and sports figures.
