• The 35th James Beard Awards convened June 16 at Chicago’s Lyric Opera House, drawing a sold-out audience and live streaming across digital platforms.
• Phila Lorn of Mawn in Philadelphia won the Emerging Chef award, Bûcheron in Minneapolis was named Best New Restaurant and Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder secured Outstanding Restaurant honors.
• Outstanding Chef went to Jungsik Yim of New York’s Jungsik, Best Chef: Midwest to Karyn Tomlinson of Myriel in St. Paul and Best Chef: Great Lakes to Noah Sandoval of Oriole.
• The foundation introduced three new beverage categories—Best New Bar, Outstanding Professional in Beverage Service and Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service—with Identidad Cocktail Bar, Arjav Ezekiel and Ignacio Jimenez among the inaugural winners.
• Julia Momosé’s Kumiko bar in Chicago earned Outstanding Bar, with Momosé using her acceptance speech to spotlight immigrant workers’ rights and their foundational contributions to US hospitality.
