2023 CFDA Awards Celebrate Diversity, Creativity, and Serena Williams as Fashion Icon

Serena Williams was hailed as a Fashion Icon at the 2023 CFDA Awards. She donned a custom Thom Browne outfit, featuring a unique makeup look with gold glitter eyeshadow, plush eyelashes, and a matte nude lip.
At the CFDA Awards, celebrities showcased diverse beauty looks, demonstrating a theme oriented towards creativity. For instance, Richie Shazam and Tokischa represented the trend of black nails, while Teyana Taylor and Mary J. Blige sported textured cosmic blue tones.
The prestigious event also celebrated the history of American fashion, with tributes to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop and the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Versailles. Notable guests included Gwyneth Paltrow, who received the Amazon Innovation award for Goop, and Tom Ford, a previous CFDA chairman.
Emerging designer Rachel Scott of Diotima won American Emerging Designer of the Year. Serena Williams, the first athlete to receive the fashion icon award, declared fashion as a means of establishing distinct individuality.
