2022 LastPass Breach Linked to $5.36 Million Cryptocurrency Theft

Hackers exploited data from the 2022 LastPass breach to steal millions in cryptocurrency, with over 40 victims identified this week.

Blockchain investigator ZachXBT reports that $5.36 million was stolen from over 40 cryptocurrency wallets on December 16 and 17, 2024.
The stolen funds were converted from Ethereum to Bitcoin through instant exchanges, highlighting advanced laundering methods by the attackers.
This latest theft follows earlier incidents in October 2023 and February 2024, bringing the total known losses linked to the breach to over $15 million.
The 2022 LastPass breach involved the theft of encrypted password vaults and other sensitive data, with weak or reused passwords enabling further compromises.
LastPass maintains that no conclusive evidence directly links the recent thefts to their platform but advises users to secure their accounts and assets immediately.
