Overview
- Police say the suspect entered Endless Summer Tanning at 1518 Madison Avenue just before 7 p.m. Tuesday and struck a 21-year-old employee in the head with a hammer, causing serious injuries.
- The employee fled with a customer into a nearby room, but the attacker allegedly tried to barricade the entrance, broke through a secured door with the hammer, produced a knife, and continued the assault.
- Loveland police arrived in about three minutes and took Kyle Matthew Behrens into custody at the scene, and he received medical attention before being booked into the Larimer County Jail.
- Jail records list charges including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree burglary with a deadly weapon, first-degree assault with a weapon, attempted first-degree assault with a weapon, second-degree assault, and third-degree assault.
- Both victims were hospitalized for emergency care and are reported to be recovering, and authorities say Behrens is currently transient and formerly lived in the Longmont area, with a first court appearance scheduled in Fort Collins on Dec. 18.
