2. Bundesliga Season Opens Under Expanded Broadcast Deal and Modernized Coverage

DFL has finalized standardized kickoff slots across Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, rolled out goal-line technology, live VAR audio in stadiums, an eight-second goalkeeper rule, retaken double-touch penalties, expanded pregame, halftime, locker-room TV access.

  • First match on August 1 at 20:30 will see FC Schalke 04 host Hertha BSC at the VELTINS-Arena, live on Sat.1 and Joyn.
  • ProSiebenSat.1 secured nine free-to-air live matches, RTL and Nitro will air Saturday evening top games, ARD will show daily highlights and Sky holds exclusive pay-TV rights for all 306 fixtures.
  • Matchdays adopt a uniform schedule with two Friday 18:30 kickoffs, three Saturday 13:00 fixtures, a 20:30 Saturday top match and three Sunday 13:30 games.
  • Goal-line technology and in-stadium live VAR audio will debut alongside a new eight-second limit on goalkeeper ball handling and mandatory retakes for double-touch penalties.
  • TV crews gain permission for brief bus-arrival and halftime interviews and controlled locker-room mobile footage under new DFL production guidelines.
