1Password Launches Platform Letting AI Agents Sign In Without Seeing Passwords

Agents must prove their identity with a digital key and ask users to approve each credential fill so passwords remain inside the vault.

Overview

  • 1Password has rolled out 1Password for Agents and made it available to individual and family accounts, expanding its earlier Claude integration into a wider platform.
  • The platform requires each AI agent to authenticate to 1Password with a unique digital key and then asks the user to approve a one-time fill so the agent never receives or stores the actual password.
  • At launch 1Password lists partners including Meta Muse, Anthropic’s Claude Duet, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work, Grok Bot and Town while noting more integrations are planned.
  • The company presents the product as a safer alternative to handing raw passwords to agents, saying the approach prevents password copies from spreading and limits how long agents can use credentials.
  • This move builds on 1Password’s July Claude test and signals a shift toward agents that act on users’ behalf, but broader adoption will depend on more major agents joining the integration list.
