Overview

• The incident unfolded around 6 PM on May 28 at the Jai Hind Estate building on Atmaram Merchant Road when a woman and a girl noticed a man recording videos in the public toilet.
• Lokmanya Tilak Marg patrol officers responded to the tip and traced the suspect, identified as 19-year-old waiter Rajankumar Choupal, to the Namo Hotel where he worked.
• Despite the victims declining to lodge a formal complaint, police invoked Section 77 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 12 of the POCSO Act to register an FIR and book Choupal on voyeurism and sexual harassment charges.
• Choupal remains in custody as officers seize his mobile phone and question him about the scope of the recordings.
