19-Year-Old Slashed and Stabbed in Birkenhead Park

Police sealed part of the park to carry out forensic and CCTV checks as they appeal for witnesses and footage.

Overview

  • The 19-year-old suffered serious lacerations to his hand and stomach and a wound to his thigh and remains in hospital in a stable condition after the early-hours incident on Sunday.
  • Officers were called at about 1.45am and established a large cordon around the south side of Birkenhead Park, focusing searches around the cricket club pitches.
  • A significant police response included a reported helicopter, a Matrix unit conducting a fingertip search and ongoing forensic examinations of the scene.
  • There have been no arrests so far and Detective Superintendent Joe Marston has urged anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage or who saw or heard anything to contact police or Crimestoppers.
  • Local leaders and police say the investigation fits into wider efforts to reduce knife crime through stop-and-search, open land searches and community work, and residents should expect further enquiries as evidence is processed.
