19-Year-Old Remanded After Stolen Car Crashes Off Snowy B303 in Upper Franconia

Prosecutors in Coburg are directing an investigation that now includes a linked December burglary.

Overview

  • Police say three suspects, two aged 18 and one 19, allegedly took a Citroën from Joseph-Haydn-Straße in Kronach overnight between January 8 and 9.
  • The vehicle was found around 7:30 a.m. on January 9 in a ditch off the B303 near Losau/Rugendorf after sliding on snow, with two arrests at the scene and a third shortly after a brief foot escape.
  • Officers report the 19-year-old drove under the influence and without a licence, and they seized prohibited items including a knuckle duster.
  • According to police, a previously stolen licence plate had been attached to the car.
  • The 19-year-old is also suspected of a December break-in in Mitwitz involving a safe with gold and silver bars worth about €45,000, and an investigating judge ordered his pretrial detention as Coburg authorities continue to seek witnesses.
