19-Year-Old Driver Arrested After Speeding Car Kills 4-Year-Old in Mumbai

The fatal accident near Ambedkar College highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in Maharashtra, one of India’s most accident-prone states.

A 4-year-old boy, Ayush Laxman Kinvade, was fatally struck by a speeding Hyundai Creta driven by 19-year-old Bhushan Gole in Mumbai's Wadala area.
The incident occurred while the child was playing near the road; the driver was attempting a U-turn when the boy came under the car's wheels.
The driver, who was not under the influence of alcohol, was arrested on-site and faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
The victim’s family, who live on a footpath near the accident site, have reportedly been allocated government housing but continue to reside in temporary shelters.
This tragedy follows a deadly bus crash in Mumbai earlier this month and underscores Maharashtra's high road accident fatality rate, with over 66,000 deaths reported between 2018 and 2022.
