19-Year-Old Detained in General Rodríguez Over Alleged Neonaticide

Investigators have launched forensic and genetic tests to determine if others knew of the concealed pregnancy.

Overview

  • Jacqueline Rocío Elizabeth Navarro Ponce was arrested on July 15–16 after an undercover surveillance operation and charged with aggravated homicide in her newborn daughter’s death.
  • Authorities allege Navarro secretly gave birth in her bathroom between June 25 and 26 and left the baby in a garbage bag in her backyard without seeking medical help.
  • An autopsy found the infant died of acute heart failure secondary to respiratory insufficiency caused by abandonment and lack of care.
  • The UFI N°9 and Juzgado de Garantías N°3 have ordered forensic and genetic examinations, including blood tests, to gather further evidence.
  • Prosecutors are examining whether family members or associates were aware of the pregnancy or birth and may file additional charges if complicity is proven.
