19-Year-Old College Athlete Dies in Skiing Accident on Expert Trail

Alex Kemp, a standout Williams College track and field athlete, succumbed to injuries after a fall on a challenging slope at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort.

Alex Kemp, a freshman at Williams College and rising track and field star, died following a skiing accident on January 6, 2025, at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Massachusetts.
The accident occurred on the Cutter Trail, a black diamond slope marked as the resort's most difficult, where Kemp went over an embankment and suffered severe head trauma despite wearing a helmet.
Emergency responders transported Kemp to Berkshire Medical Center and later Baystate Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries the next day, January 7, 2025.
Authorities confirmed no drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident, and an investigation by the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit is ongoing with cooperation from the ski resort.
Kemp was remembered as an exceptional student, athlete, and friend, with aspirations to pursue a doctorate in computer science and a legacy of inspiring his teammates and peers both on and off the track.
