Overview
- Police say 42-year-old Carmen Lizet Puch was found stabbed near the Difficult Run trail on Aug. 17 and a preliminary autopsy listed multiple sharp force injuries and ruled the death a homicide.
- Investigators say surveillance video, call records and an unnamed co-worker’s statements show the suspect left work with a knife, gloves and a bottle and later called the witness to say he had "done it."
- Officers recovered black latex gloves and an empty water bottle that smelled of gasoline and say the bottle was filled by siphoning gas from the suspect’s motorcycle in what appeared to be an attempted burning.
- Alexis Antonio Cedillos-Campos was arrested after a brief chase on Aug. 19, reportedly offered a full confession, is charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bond pending a Nov. 30 preliminary hearing.
- DHS confirmed the suspect was detained and released by Border Patrol in April 2024, a disclosure that separates immigration and criminal processes but is likely to fuel political scrutiny of border enforcement policies.
