19-Year-Old Arrested in Newcastle Crash That Killed Woman and Unborn Baby

Overview

  • On June 22 at around 2:40 a.m. in North Lambton a Holden Commodore flagged for unauthorized plates veered into oncoming traffic and struck a Hyundai sedan head-on.
  • A 55-year-old passenger in the Hyundai died at the scene and her 28-year-old pregnant daughter lost her unborn child but remains in serious condition at John Hunter Hospital.
  • Two rear-seat occupants of the Commodore, girls aged 15 and 17, sustained serious injuries and were also admitted to John Hunter Hospital.
  • After initially fleeing the scene, a 19-year-old man was arrested on June 24 at a Mayfield home and is assisting police inquiries.
  • New South Wales Police have placed the case under Strike Force Carrarang to examine the circumstances of the crash and the conduct of the police monitoring operation.
