18-Year-Old US Marine Arrested for Stealing Over $500,000 in Jewelry Heists

- Marcelo Hernandez, 18, was arrested following the theft of over $500,000 worth of jewelry from two Houston-area stores, David Yurman Jewelry and Helzberg Diamond.
- The heists involved smashing store fronts with a sledgehammer and stealing numerous jewelry items including rings, necklaces, and bracelets.
- Authorities recovered most of the stolen jewelry along with three handguns and $11,000 in cash from Hernandez's vehicle.
- Hernandez, who had just completed Marine boot camp, did not disclose his military status during the arrest until his dog tags were noticed.
- He is charged with two counts of first-degree felony theft and is currently held on a $500,000 bond.
