17th Gangbal Yatra Sets Out From Naranag With Multi-Agency Escort

Authorities emphasize safety for Kashmiri Pandit pilgrims trekking to the 14,500-foot Gangbal Lake for ancestral rites.

Overview

  • The pilgrimage was flagged off at the Naranag temple after Chhari Puja by Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg, with Deputy Commissioner Jatin Kishore and SSP Khalil Poswal in attendance.
  • Devotees began the roughly 15-kilometre ascent to Gangbal Lake, where prayers for ancestors are performed on the lakeshore.
  • Security and emergency support accompanied the trek, including the Army, CRPF, J&K Police, SDRF, Forest Protection Force, health officials, and disaster management volunteers.
  • Organisers and the administration arranged free langar points, pony assistance, sleeping bags, registration cards, and the presence of priests at the lake.
  • Revived in 2009 after a long dormancy, the pilgrimage is in its 17th uninterrupted year, with participants slated to return following the lake-side rituals.
