17,036 Complaints Filed Over Jal Jeevan Mission, With Uttar Pradesh Accounting for 84%

The disclosure coincides with a plan to extend the rural water scheme to December 2028.

  • In a Rajya Sabha reply, Minister of State V. Somanna said 17,036 complaints were reported by 32 states and UTs through sources including media, public representatives, citizens and grievance portals.
  • Authorities have acted against 621 departmental officials, 969 contractors and 153 third-party inspection agencies nationwide.
  • Uttar Pradesh said it investigated all 14,264 complaints, submitted reports in 14,212, kept 52 pending, and took action in 434 cases involving officials, contractors and TPIAs.
  • Assam logged 1,236 complaints and Tripura 376, whereas Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Goa, Puducherry and Lakshadweep reported none.
  • The Finance Minister has announced a plan to extend JJM to December 2028 with a higher outlay, and the department said a continuation proposal is under consideration.
