Yashtika Acharya, a 17-year-old powerlifter and Junior National Games gold medalist, died on February 18 during a weightlifting session in Rajasthan's Bikaner district.
The accident occurred when a 270-kg barbell slipped and fell on her neck, breaking it, while she was attempting a lift under her trainer's supervision.
Despite immediate rescue efforts and being rushed to a hospital, Acharya was pronounced dead by medical staff.
Her trainer sustained minor injuries during the incident, and the family has not filed any formal complaint regarding the tragedy.
Acharya was a rising star in powerlifting, having recently won gold at the National Bench Press Championship in Goa in the Sub Junior 84kg and above category.
