Overview

  • The driver was sentenced in Perth Children’s Court on June 4 to three years and two months in prison and must serve at least half of that term before becoming eligible for parole.
  • The July 13, 2024 crash on Farrington Road in North Lake saw the P-plate driver’s ute hit a kerb, roll and collide with a Jeep, killing 18-year-old footballer Nick Campo and injuring five others.
  • Court documents show the vehicle exceeded 130 kph in a 70 kph zone and ran at least one red light in the moments before the collision.
  • Testimony revealed the teenager and some passengers had used cocaine before the trip and that occupants encouraged him to ‘gun it’ through a red light.
  • Nick Campo’s family labelled the sentence insufficient and has since campaigned for tighter passenger limits on P-plate drivers to improve road safety.
