Overview

• DeAngelo Miles, a recent Hansberry College Prep graduate and team captain, was found with a gunshot wound to the head around 3 a.m. on June 1 in the 11900 block of S. Wallace.
• A friend heard gunshots and located Miles unresponsive in an alley following an after-prom gathering.
• Chicago police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced the 17-year-old dead at the scene.
• Authorities suspect the shooting may have resulted from a robbery gone wrong and report that no arrests have been made.
• Hansberry College Prep plans a memorial service and balloon release to honor Miles, who had intended to enlist in the U.S. Navy.
