Overview

• Darrell Harris, who was about to start his senior year at Bronx Leadership Academy High School, was shot in the head and right arm and later died at Jacobi Medical Center
• Witnesses say Harris asked someone to stop dousing him with water before a man in a black hoodie, sweatpants and ski mask pulled a real gun and opened fire
• The suspect ran out of Starlight Park toward Sheridan Avenue leaving two 9 mm shell casings behind and no arrests have been made
• His mother, Kelli Lewis, said Harris rarely went outside and had promised to be home by 9 p.m., and she previously lost an older son to gun violence in 2021
• NYPD data shows shooting victims under 18 have risen 133 percent since 2018
