Overview
- Tanpreet Kaur, a 23-year-old Indian woman from Faridkot, was ambushed near her Winnipeg apartment shortly after midnight on June 23 as she returned from work.
- The attackers stabbed her in the abdomen and waist and inflicted cuts on her left eyelid and arm before seizing her phone and cards.
- During the assault she wrested the knife from her attacker but the group fled after bystanders intervened and called 911.
- Winnipeg police have detained a 17-year-old girl who now faces charges of aggravated assault, robbery and multiple breaches of a release order.
- Kaur remains in critical condition at a local hospital and has undergone two surgeries since the attack.
