17 Arrested in Alleged GTA Criminal Network Following Year-Long Police Probe
York Regional Police's 'Project Skyfall' uncovered a network linked to home invasions, drug trafficking, and weapons offenses, seizing $14M in drugs and multiple firearms.
- The investigation began after a Christmas Eve 2023 home invasion in Vaughan, where suspects held a family at gunpoint and assaulted them while demanding money.
- York Regional Police, with assistance from Toronto and Peel police, executed 48 search warrants, recovering two handguns, a shotgun, and $14.4 million worth of drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and counterfeit Oxycodone pills.
- Seventeen individuals from across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond were arrested, facing a total of 85 charges, including drug trafficking, weapons offenses, and unauthorized computer use.
- One of the accused allegedly accessed Ontario Ministry of Transportation data to aid the criminal network; this access has since been revoked.
- Six of those arrested were already out on bail or parole for prior offenses, leading police to criticize the current bail system as inadequate for public safety.
