16-Year-Old Girl Fatally Shot in North Philadelphia Home as Police Probe Possible Accident

Detectives are testing evidence to determine who fired the shot.

  • Police responded shortly before 5:30 p.m. to the 2400 block of North Colorado Street and found the teen with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
  • She was taken to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:46 p.m.
  • Investigators recovered a spent shell casing, a loaded magazine, and two semiautomatic handguns in a second-floor rear bedroom.
  • An 18-year-old who was in the room was detained for questioning and is cooperating, as are several other teens who were inside the home.
  • Police say she was visiting the family who lives there, young children inside were not hurt, and her identity has not been released.
