16-Year-Old Charged, Jailed in Carrick High Stabbings That Injured Three

Police say the hallway attack followed an altercation, prompting a district review of screening after a kitchen knife bypassed a cafeteria entrance check.

Overview

  • Anthony Taulton, 16, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and weapons offenses, denied bail, and held in the Allegheny County Jail ahead of an Oct. 1 preliminary hearing.
  • The Sept. 24 incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. inside Carrick High School’s front hallway and was not random, according to Pittsburgh Police.
  • Two students suffered abdominal stab wounds—one remains in critical condition and another is stable—while a third student with a minor laceration was treated at the scene.
  • A criminal complaint says Taulton admitted bringing a kitchen knife from home wrapped in a hat, entering via the cafeteria entrance used by late arrivals, and later concealing the knife in his hoodie.
  • Carrick shifted to remote learning for follow-up days as Pittsburgh Public Schools reviews metal detectors and entrance screening and expands security presence and student support services.
