Derbing Alvarado, a sophomore at Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School, was killed on March 17 near St. Louis Bertrand Church in Oakland.
The shooting occurred during an attempted robbery in which two individuals confronted Alvarado and his friends, demanding their backpacks but fleeing without taking anything.
A 16-year-old suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal shooting.
Friends described Alvarado as protective, mature, and responsible, with his 16th birthday approaching on April 12.
