157 Migrants Brought to Canary Island Ports After Two Sea Rescues

Coordinated air-sea teams located both vessels, with most passengers stable; two required hospital care.

Overview

  • A cayuco carrying 99 sub-Saharan migrants, including 10 women and 4 minors, reached La Restinga on El Hierro by its own means early Sunday and was escorted to the port by Salvamar Navia.
  • An alert to the Las Palmas coordination center prompted deployment of the Sasemar 103 aircraft, which located a dinghy about 13 kilometers south of Morro Jable, Fuerteventura.
  • Salvamar Izar rescued 58 people from the dinghy at approximately 13:38 and brought them to Gran Tarajal around 15:00, with 14 women and one minor among those on board.
  • Security and medical teams received all 157 arrivals at the ports, with authorities reporting good overall condition for the group.
  • Officials noted two people required hospital assistance, and the Canary Islands emergency center specified one transfer from the La Restinga arrival.
