1,500 Climate Protesters Arrested After Blocking Dutch Motorway

Extinction Rebellion activists shut down a section of highway in The Hague to protest Dutch fossil fuel subsidies.
Water cannon were used to disperse the protestors within 15 minutes of them blocking the roadway.
Over 1,500 arrests were made, with 40 facing charges beyond violating public demonstration laws.
Celebrities like Carice van Houten joined in the protest and were reportedly among those detained.
The demonstration was the latest of seven by Extinction Rebellion targeting the same stretch of highway.
